C:CTP FOR LINUX!! (Jan. 27)
It is true! Loki Entertainment Software announced yesterday that it will create a Linux version of C:CTP(our thanks to Rick Alther and Patrice LaFlamme for notifying us). The linux version will have the same source code, graphics and interface with the pc version, and it is planned to be released in spring, a little bit after the pc version. See also an interview of the people behind Loki, on linuxpower.org.

100 OUT OF 23,000??? (Jan. 22)
According to Lt John, the total number of entries for the beta test was 23,000!! This was the bigest signup Activision ever had, and one of the bigest for Gamespot. There will be a total of 100 beta testers, and some of them are people from our forums, so if you see someone disappearing... Their names wont be announced though, and there will be a NDA until near release time. The lucky ones might get a mail even today!

NO REPLAY FOR NOW... (Jan. 22)
We sent our replay poll results to Lt John. He said that the game is almost at "feature lock", which means all of the features are in the game and functioning- no more additions can be made. Even if there was more time, in his own words "you can't make game design modifications on the fly or add in major changes late in the process- it's a recipe for disaster and major delays". Well, I guess they know something more than me or you... :) Anyway, the replay feature might make it in the expansion(which seems to be a certain thing), but don't take it for granted...

REPLAY FOR THE PEOPLE! (Jan. 19)
One more time we asked for your opinion and you gave it! Of the 618 votes, 292 or 47% "Would kill" for a end game replay feature in C:CTP just like in Civ1. 166(26%) are more gentle and ask for it in a nice way :) while 66(10%) don't see why it shouldn't be in the game. Finally, 32(5%) don't care about it and an amazing amount of 62 people(10%) don't know what it is(blasphemy!). Of course, as you may know already, a replay feature is not in Activision's plans. Let's hope they will change their minds after our poll... :)

EDITING MAP DETAILS... (Jan. 18)
We should watch newsgroups more often. Here's another interesting post of Peter Karpas:
You bet you can edit the maps. One of the cool things we've added is what I call the "macro tile" system. Place a bunch of forest tiles next to each other, and the forest art automatically adds more trees in the tiles, making it look like a "bigger" forest. Put just one forest tile on a map, and it will look more sparse. Same is true for mountains and most other tiles.

UNLIMITED MAP SIZE?!? (Jan. 17)
We're copying from a usenet post by Activision's Peter Karpas:
As far as size of maps, this is from one of our programmers: "There is no max map size, save what you're willing to wait for when the terrain generator starts up. I made one that was 256x512 tiles; it took over 2 minutes for the terrain generator to run on my PII450."
There probably is a theoretical map size limit that will "break" the game, but we haven't found it yet.

Comments? :)

GAMEPOST PREVIEW (Jan. 17)
Gamespot as a part of a CGW feature has a three page preview of C:CTP. Not many new things to read, except perhaps that all units/techs/wonders around slavery will be optional, and the the Genesis Device, the ecotopian wonder, will "remake all life on the planet in a new image"(don't ask me what this means though :)). On the same feature you can also find small articles on Civ2:TOT and SMAC.

LAST CALL FOR BETA TEST (Jan. 18-19)
(Jan. 19) Well, the Beta Test sign-up ended yesterday. When the beta testers are chosen there will be an announcement on the official C:CTP site for the rest...
(Jan. 18) Lt. John informed us that the C:CTP Beta Test will end in the next couple of days, so hurry up! The Chosen Ones :) will probably be notified next week...

MORE SCREENS... (Jan. 11-18)
(Jan. 18) One week later, we have added four more screens to our ever-growing archive.
(Jan. 15) A bountiful harvest of screenshots has been graceously presented to us --- again! Today's additions are, again, in beautiful, high-res JPEG format. No drooling now. :)
(Jan. 13) Even more screens! Lt John was kind enough to send us three new (latest build) screenshots showing the Monument, Ranking and Battle View screens. Not to brag about it, but we now have over 90 screenshots... {grin}
(Jan. 12) Pages 10 and 11 of screenshots are now posted. A small clarification: the screenshots are new in the sense that we've found them now, heh heh... they are taken from older builds and some inaccuracies likely exist.
(Jan. 11) We've discovered some new screenshots for you. They are too many(over 20) to post them in one day's update so they will posted partially. A couple are not new but they are on 1024x768. In fact, almost all are on 1024x768! Anyway, here is part 1(screenshot page 9).

REPLAY! REPLAY! (Jan. 10)
Several things seem to excite you about C:CTP. In our third poll we gave you lots of choices. If we exclude "All of the above" which got 41%(416 votes), the most exciting features of C:CTP are Sea and space colonization(22%, 226 votes) and the Anti-micromanagement features. You can see the complete results on the link on the poll box. We now have a new poll about the replay feature civ1 had. Lt. John has said that it wont exist in C:CTP. Here is your chance to send a message to Activision! :)

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? (Jan. 8)
The title says it all! Gamespot's Beta Test Center opened its CTP beta sign-up site. On the site, you will be asked to fill out some general information (i.e. name, mailing address) as well as your system specs.
Here the minimum requirements: Pentium 133, 16MB RAM, and Windows 95 or 98. To the best of our knowledge, you have until this time next week to fill out and submit this form. Applicants chosen to participate in this public beta test will be notified by e-mail within the coming weeks (so be to fill out all fields). Good luck!

INTERVIEW WITH RICK GLENN (Jan. 8)
Our latest installment in our exclusive series of interviews with C:CTP development staff has arrived! Rick Glenn took the time to answer our questions; enjoy!

BETA SIGNUP STARTS FRIDAY (Jan. 6)
A week ago Lt. John promised more information on the beta signups and he has delivered! In our CTP General forum, he posted the following:
"Gamespot will be hosting the beta test signup starting Friday, January 8th. Details will be forthcoming on [GameSpot's website]. The signup period will last approx. one week, so that all of you who are heading out on trips may get a chance to participate after all."

On a seperate note, Activision announed yesterday that BradyGames will be writing the official CTP strategy guide.

MAC PORT CONFIRMED! (Jan. 6)
You asked, they listened. Mac gamers will have the same crack at C:CTP as their PC cousins. MacSoft, which ported MicroProse's Civilization II, made the announement yesterday. You can read the full press release here.
